Bethany Hamilton, born February 8, 1990, is a professional surfer who is best known for her competitive career as well as surviving a shark attack in 2013. At the age of 13-years-old, a shark attacked Bethany while she was out on the water. As a result, Bethany lost her left arm after the shark that attacked her bit it off. After a lot of healing, Bethany eventually returned to the world of professional surfing with a slew of new fans cheering her on. Bethany was honored at the 2004 ESPY Awards and was named the NSSA National Helping Kids Champion in 2005. Her story also spurred two films, a documentary released in 2018 titled ‘Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable’ and an adaptation of her story called ‘Soul Surfer,’ which starred AnnaSophia Robb as Bethany. Here, Bethany Hamilton is seen at the Los Angeles Premiere of Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Alcon Entertainment’s “Dolphin Tale 2” held at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, CA on Sept. 7, 2014.
