He went to Ridgewood High School, where he was dynamic in the school’s performance center program. Zegen is a 2001 alumni of Skidmore College. He is an individual from the New York City sketch parody troupe “Hottie$ Galore”. His job on Rescue Me started as a repetitive character in Seasons 1-3, playing the nephew of arrangement lead Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary). In Seasons 5-6, he was elevated to the primary cast when his character started trial fireman school to turn into a fireman.

In late 2010, Zegen was given a role as hoodlum Bugsy Siegel for the second, third and fifth period of the HBO arrangement, Boardwalk Empire.

In 2011 Zegen, alongside James Ransone, were thrown in supporting jobs in the HBO satire arrangement How To Make It In America. In mid-2011, Zegen was thrown in a common visitor job in the second period of the AMC arrangement The Walking Dead. In 2014 he made the job of Liam off-Broadway in obscurity satire Bad Jews.
